But did you know that NCIS may have never appeared on CBS at all? And CBS has rival network NBC to thank for that!
At the end of its first season (1995-1996) JAG finished towards the bottom of the ratings and was cancelled by NBC. CBS picked up the cancelled series made a few tweaks to the cast (adding, among others) actress Catherine Bell and episodes began airing on CBS in 1997.
JAG went on to become became a very successful series for CBS and ran for 10 seasons; with the last of over 220 episodes airing in 2005. The series is now a fixture in syndication.
So where does NCIS fit in? If you didn't already know, NCIS was a spin-off of JAG. The original main characters of NCIS made their debut over a couple of episodes in season eight of JAG. Reaction was favorable and NCIS was picked up by CBS and the rest is history.
Do you think NBC would have liked to have three hit shows in prime time? It could have, if it just had a little more patience and, perhaps, a little more vision to see what JAG could have become.
What things in your life could use a little more of your patience?
